An officer with the Southeast District RCMP has been charged in Moncton and Saint John after an investigation into an allegation of domestic assault, according to the Serious Incident Response Team.
The Serious Incident Response Team said in a press release last Tuesday that it began investigating July 15 after receiving a referral of a domestic assault allegation from the RCMP. In an investigation report, SIRT director Erin Nauss wrote that there were “reasonable and probable grounds” to believe that criminal offences were committed.
Cst. Mark Wright, 45, was charged last Monday in Moncton provincial court with a count of assault and a count of uttering threats, according to the report. On Tuesday, he was charged in Saint John provincial court on one count of assault, the report said.
Wright’s next court dates are Nov. 13 in Saint John and Nov. 17 in Moncton, according to the report.
The charges against Wright have not been proven in court.
SIRT spokesperson Khalehla Perrault confirmed Wright’s identity Tuesday and said he is with the Southeast District RCMP, declining further comment. The district stretches from Grand Bay-Westfield in the west to Sackville in the east, then north to Rogersville, but it does not include the Codiac Region RCMP in the Moncton area.
RCMP Cpl. Matthew Leblanc-Smith said Tuesday that the force forwarded a matter “involving a member of J Division” to SIRT on July 15. He said Wright will be “on administrative status” pending the outcome of the court proceedings.
