The Imam Hussain Foundation in Windsor/ Canada issues a statement on the terrorist act that took place in the Canadian city of London

The Imam Hussain Foundation in Windsor/ Canada has issued a statement regarding the terrorist act that took place in the city of London in the province of Ontario in Canada, which killed four and wounded the fifth of one Muslim family. This family was targeted because of their Muslim faith.

Windsor’s Imam Hussain Foundation’s statement regarding the London Tragedy

The Imam Hussain Foundation’s management, employees, volunteers, and community thank the official, acclaimed, and institutional bodies that offered their condolences and sympathy for those affected by the terrorist crime of killing four and wounding the fifth member of a Muslim family.

We once again extend our deepest condolences to the loved ones and acquaintances of this bereaved family. Our hearts, thoughts and prayers are with the families of the victims. “Surely we belong to God, and indeed to Him, we shall return” (Holy Quran, 2:156).

We commend the positions that were issued by the Prime Minister, the Premier of Ontario, country officials, and the various parties and communities that condemned this crime sympathized with the victims, described the incident as applicable to the Muslim community, and considered the crime for what it is – an act of terrorism that stems from a cultural hatred towards Islam.

We also commend all those who are working hard to heal the wounds, reveal the circumstances, and combat Islamaphobia.  Even so, we stress the need to not be satisfied with just words, and to employ an appropriate punishment against the offender for the severity of his crime, which will constitute a deterrent to others.

We stress the need to work on creating social immunity and building an educational methodology that will eliminate the thoughts that incite hatred towards Muslims and other marginalized groups due to differences in religion, colour, race, or affiliation. Instead, our differences should lead to a cultural acceptance that will bring understanding, development, and positive interaction in society.

We also emphasize to our honourable community to be patient, wise, forbearant, and continue to enrich society with the cultural energies it stores for the sake of social solidarity and to provide it with the moral perfections that elevate it.
